Smoked Pork Trotters in HK

Smoked Pork Trotters in HK

Hope you guys are enjoying this series I’m writing up! =D What I have for you today is surprisingly not an asian dish. It is actually originated from Germany, and is known as smoked pork trotters. There is a strong taste to it, and it never ever feels oily or salty. The crackles (pork skin) are almost as crunchy as chips, and it’s a pretty popular dish you can find in German style restaurants in HK. It’s well worth a try, I think it was roughly 120HKD for it. 🙂

Hong Kong

Hong Kong

What I have for you today is a popular HK fast food. They call it “rice boxes” there, and basically is a lunchbox. In the picture shown here, it is a combination of roast pork, and steamed chicken. There are many HK BBQ’s around in Brisbane that serve the same dish, just that they just don’t do it the same as the one shown here.

The chicken itself, combined with the ginger and shallot (on the right) makes for a delicious taste. Without it, the chicken doesn’t have too much taste to it. The pork is split into the skin and the meat. The red slices are the pork skin which are very crunchy and is kinda like chips, but heaps better! The meat itself is actually pork belly, and is marinated in various herbs and spices. All in all, this was a tasty meal for a small 5 AUD (roughly)!

PS – Sorry guys, I’ve been a bit busy, but will continue to try and make weekly entries for you regular readers! =D
