Tenzaru Soba~!

Anybody heard of Tenzaru Soba? 「天ざるそば」

It’s Japanese for cold buckwheat noodles with Tempura (wiki link for tempura here =P) Please keep on reading if you’re interested!

Tenzaru Soba @ Namba, Osaka

Tempura – a must for those who love big prawns and fried vegies of all kinds. This is a really good summer dish, not a winter one as I had =P For those that never had this dish before, the noodles may look bland and not tasty at all. The secret to this is this special soya sauce in that vase shaped bottle (looks like a sake bottle haha)! You pour that into the small bowl that is below the shallots, wasabi, and white radish. You mix it with the stuff above for some extra ‘bite‘ to it.

To use the sauce, pick up enough noodles so u can dip it all in the sauce – it’s not that salty and the extra bite makes it that bit special! With the tempura, you can dip that in the soya sauce too, or just eat it while its fresh from the fryer – the crunchy bits makes you realise how much better fresh fried food is. =)

I can’t exactly remember how much it cost, but it should have been around the 10 AUD mark when I last saw it. It was in one of the back streets of Namba for those willing to give it a go – warning – there aren’t any English menus, but I think you could probably go with pointing at the waxed versions of the dishes at the front. Hope your mouth isn’t salivating that badly atm! =P

P.S. – Apologies for the late blog entry, been busy mucking around and enjoying my holidays – hope you guys don’t mind! =P
