A Turkish change in direction~! =)

After blogging for so long in the Japanese food area, I decided to take a break from it and bring you something different, and something you can have back in Brisbane.

If you hadn’t picked it up from the title, this blog is on Turkish food, continue reading if you’ve never tried it/wondered what it’s about.

Turkish food @ Ahmets Southbank

I must admit, that apart from kebabs, I have never really had true Turkish food, I had no idea what to expect. Being situated in Southbank, I can’t say that the prices at Ahmets (the name of the place) was that healthy for your wallet. (note the subtle pun =P)

There was heaps of food – this was just a combination of the many types of things you can order in your main – it was the mix grill I think, but the lamb cutlets are missing =S. From chicken skewers to this special beef skewer to quails with rice, salad and Turkish bread as sides. I’m not that familiar with Turkish cuisine, so I’m not 100% how they make it. According to the menu here, the quail is char grilled, special beef skewer I believe were grilled again, along with the chicken as well. The rice was a good accompaniment for the rest of the food, as they all had quite strong flavours, and some vegetables on the side didn’t do it any harm either. The Turkish bread was a good alternative to the rice as well. I enjoyed this meal – it gave me a different insight as to what Turkish food is, (though can’t say it could be 100% – they might have modified it to suit the Aussie taste buds) and that it’s a cuisine I’d like to enjoy again.

Until next time in the wonderful world of food……..

P.S – They even have a website – right here!

P.P.S – I have been lazy and busy lately =P

youre right about the expensive part..it was just ridiculous..we ordered a serving of turkish bread and i cant believe that EACH DIP costed like..$5 or something 😐 pretty insane…
i remember it was also quite different from other turkish bread..btu then again tahts the only turkish place ive been to so its probably the REAL style of turkish bread

anyways for the main i think i had this lamb mutton…i THINK thats what it was..and i idnt really likeit that much either. the serving size was quite large though, and i coudlnt finish it. i thought the flavouring was quite weird too..there wasnt much of it but you could taste something there..like a bit of savouriness in it :S

anwayys maybe different things on the menu tasted better, but i guess it wasnt my cup of tea

  4. İ used to go to Ahmets at Southbank and enjoyed the food the atmosphere etc you are right it is expensive. İ have since moved to Turkey and found the food is much cheaper – the kebap dish you are showing there would cost you at the most 10dollarau that includes unlimited bread and salad – the service in Turkey is first rate everyone runs around giving out the dishes and taking them away. The food at Ahmets is good and authentic but expensive coming to Turkey for the food is even better.
